Why specify a Blue Roof?
Blue roofs can provide a number of benefits depending on design. These benefits include temporary storage of rainfall to mitigate runoff impacts, storage for reuse such as irrigation or cooling water makeup, or recreational opportunities.
Widespread urbanisation
Urbanisation has resulted in more impermeable surfacing than ever before which has changed the modern hydrology to run-off rather than infiltration
Changing rainfall patterns… more rain, more often

Aging drainage infrastructure not able to cope with demand as a result of the above
Run-off is forced into an aging stormwater sewer system that just cannot cope with the volumes of water and backs up with the inevitable flooding events.

This is the key aim of a blue roof. Temporary attenuation of storm water within the roof structure and control of its discharge allows us to release the water at a rate that the site can cope with.
