Ard Scoil Ris in Limerick was earmarked for redevelopment as the school has been in operation for 20 years. Phases 2 & 3 have been under construction from early 2012.
It was essential that the existing school building should be protected with a high performance flat roof waterproofing system, to minimise the risk of water ingress whilst having an excellent life expectancy and be covered by a meaningful guarantee.
The Main Contractor L&M Keating secured the contract to refurbish the existing building which was completed in just over a year.
The team at L&M were keen to select the right materials for the job and undertook a process to provide the most cost effective roofing solution whilst not jeopardizing on quality
The IKO Armourplan SG150 (fleece backed) Waterproofing System was approved for the roof after stringent technical analysis and due diligence by the architects Healey Partners, Limerick.
The existing waterproofing mastic asphalt on a concrete deck was a perfect structure to receive an Armourplan single ply pvc warm roof system.
Systems T-O VCL was torch applied to the primed mastic asphalt surface followed with Supertherm MG insulation bonded in bitumen to the vapour barrier. The final layer Armourplan SG150 (1.5mm) membrane bonded to the Supertherm with Spectrabond low foam adhesive. All layers were fully bonded to the asphalt which eliminates water tracking under the system in the unlikely event the Armourplan was to be damaged.
Armourplan SG150 is a 1.5mm thick reinforced fleece backed PVC single ply roofing membrane which forms a sleek skin on many types of roof application.
